Job Title: Production Supervisor

Reports to: Operations Manager

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Production Supervisor to oversee our in-house production team and ensure the efficient and timely creation of high-quality garments for our contemporary and sustainable womenswear brand. The Production Supervisor will play a critical role in managing daily production activities, optimising sewing processes, maintaining quality standards, and ensuring the smooth flow of production from raw materials to finished garments. This role requires a strong understanding of garment construction, sewing techniques, production workflows, and inventory management. The Production Supervisor will report directly to the Operations Manager and collaborate closely with the design and production teams.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Production Management:

  • Oversee and supervise the daily activities of the in-house production team, including sewing machine operators, pattern cutters, and finishers.

  • Ensure production targets are met while maintaining quality standards and adhering to deadlines.

  • Monitor production progress, identify potential bottlenecks, and implement solutions to optimise efficiency.

  • Collaborate with the design team to ensure clear understanding of design specifications and construction requirements.

  • Maintain accurate production records, including daily output, work-in-progress tracking, and finished goods inventory.

  • Implement and enforce quality control procedures at each stage of the production process to minimise defects and ensure high-quality garments.

  • Identify and address any production issues or challenges promptly, escalating concerns to the Operations Manager as needed.

2. Sewing Process Optimisation:

  • Analyse current sewing processes and identify opportunities for improvement in efficiency, quality, and resource utilisation.

  • Implement best practices in sewing techniques, equipment utilisation, and workflow management.

  • Train and mentor sewing machine operators on proper sewing techniques, quality standards, and efficient work practices.

  • Collaborate with the maintenance team to ensure sewing equipment is properly maintained and serviced to prevent downtime.

  • Stay up-to-date on industry best practices and new technologies in sewing and garment construction.

3. Inventory Management:

  • Oversee the management of raw materials inventory, including fabrics, trims, and other production supplies.

  • Ensure accurate tracking of inventory levels, monitor stock movements, and initiate timely replenishment orders.

  • Implement inventory control measures to minimise waste, prevent stock-outs, and optimise storage space utilisation.

  • Collaborate with the procurement team to ensure timely delivery of raw materials and maintain optimal inventory levels.

4. Team Management and Leadership:

  • Provide leadership, guidance, and support to the production team, fostering a positive and productive work environment.

  • Delegate tasks effectively, set clear expectations, and provide regular feedback on performance.

  • Identify training needs and provide opportunities for skill development within the production team.

  • Motivate and inspire the team to achieve production goals and maintain high standards of workmanship.

  • Ensure compliance with company policies, safety regulations, and ethical labor practices within the production team.

5. Reporting and Communication:

  • Prepare regular production reports for the Operations Manager, summarising production output, efficiency, and any challenges encountered.

  • Communicate effectively with the design, production planning, and quality control teams to ensure seamless workflow and timely production.

  • Participate in production planning meetings to provide input on capacity, timelines, and resource allocation.

  • Maintain open communication with the production team, providing clear instructions, addressing concerns, and fostering a collaborative work environment.

6. Additional Responsibilities:

  • Participate in the recruitment and selection of new production team members.

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of new production processes and technologies.

  • Stay informed about industry trends and best practices in sustainable production and ethical manufacturing.

  • Identify and implement cost-saving measures within the production process without compromising quality or ethical standards.

Requirements:

Essential Experience:

  • Proven Experience: A minimum of 3+ years of experience as a Production Supervisor or similar role in the garment/fashion industry, preferably with a focus on contemporary womenswear.

  • In-House Production Knowledge: Demonstrable experience managing in-house production teams and overseeing the entire production process from pattern cutting to finishing.

  • Garment Construction Expertise: Deep understanding of garment construction techniques, sewing methods, different fabric types, and quality standards in apparel manufacturing.

  • Sewing Machine Operation: Proficiency in operating various industrial sewing machines and familiarity with different sewing techniques.

  • Quality Control Experience: Proven experience implementing and enforcing quality control procedures throughout the production process.

  • Inventory Management Skills: Knowledge of inventory management principles and experience with inventory tracking systems.

  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in using production management software, spreadsheets, and other relevant tools.

  • Adaptability and Flexibility: Ability to adapt to changing priorities, handle multiple tasks, and work in a fast-paced production environment.

  • Passion for Sustainable Fashion: A genuine interest in and understanding of sustainable and ethical production practices.

Desirable Experience and Skills:

  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing or similar process improvement methodologies.

  • Knowledge of CAD/CAM software for pattern making and garment design.

  • Experience working with sustainable fabrics and ethical sourcing practices.

  • Formal training in apparel production or garment manufacturing technology.

  • Experience in a leadership role within a small-to-medium-sized fashion brand.
